The Tri-Community Homemakers is a local women's service organization that began in the 1960s, affiliated with Walla Walla County Extension, as a way for rural women to be better educated on topics of nutrition, food preservatio, child development, money management, and homemaking. Although the organization is no longer affiliated with County Extension, and the role of women has changed dramatically since then, members still meet monthly to discuss a relevant topic and share ideas. The women of the Homemakers Club cater meals to earn money for this scholarship. Because education has been important to the organization since it was started, the Tri-Community Homemakers Club has given this scholarship to a graduating Touchet senior every year since 1978.
